Introduction

From 1953 to 1958 Dan Gallin contributed to Labor Action and The New International, the weekly journal and the quarterly review of the Independent Socialist League of the United States. Most often, he wrote under the name of André Giacometti. From 1958 to 1963, he also wrote for International Socialism (UK), also as André Giacometti. Some of his articles are given below. At the time Gallin contributed to these publications, Labor Action was edited by Hal Draper (1914-1990), The New International was edited by Julius Jacobson (1922-2003), who later edited New Politics with his wife Phyllis (1922-2010) and the editor of International Socialism was Michael Kidron (1930-2003). Gallin formed enduring friendships with these comrades. Why “André Giacometti”? Because of the great admiration Gallin had, and still has, for the great Alberto Giacometti, the Swiss sculptor and painter.
