NUMSA Breaks From ANC and SACP

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) called a Special National Congress from December 17 to 20 to examine and discuss the political and economic situation of the country after the Marikana massacre. In a hard-hitting Declaration, Congress denounced the endorsement by the ANC government of neo-liberal policies, also supported by the South African Communist Party. As a “revolutionary union”, NUMSA will now build a socialist opposition, based on the Freedom Charter, at the political level and within COSATU.
